OK / TX Duck Hunting

Just got back from the Texas Trophy Hunters show in Fort Worth where Diamond Bar Sporting and Heavybilt Mfg are exhibiting. It is always encouraging for me to see how many people are involved, or at least interested in hunting and the outdoors. It is a way of life we shouldn't take for granted, and it's absolutely vital that the younger generations be involved in order to perpetuate.

What I did notice this year was how few outfitters focus on duck hunting. Obviously most offer deer hunting. After all, this is where the big bucks (pun intended) are. And several did seem to offer good goose hunting. But very little duck hunting! Then it dawned on me -- most don't have first rate duck hunting because of the water, or lackthereof in west texas. Sure they are in the fly way, but without large bodies of water it's hard to have the volume of ducks needed for "limit out" hunting.

We're fortunate here at the Diamond Bar to have over 200 acres of water, with multiple bodies of 20+ acres. I absolutely can't wait till November 1st when season opens here in Southeastern Oklahoma (and all of Texas). We've some new special widgeon decoys on order to make the fall hunts all the better - they're hard to find for those of you that have never tried.

Hopefully everyone has a great weekend - take care.

Ben
